Just a Normal Class Day at CS Research Methods

Today's class experience was both enjoyable and informative. We began with a large number of people in class missing. Most probably because this was the only class we have to attend today. The date was the 15th of February, and the facilitator was making jokes about how yesterday was Valentine's Day, and made fun of us for not having dates. 


He also presented the "Bakit #jowable ang researcher?" poster from the Department of Science and Technology. Since our class is all about research, the poster made a lot of sense. The gist of it was researchers would make good partners as they are problem-solvers (they could solve your problems!), they are not afraid of defining terms (they could put a LABEL on that relationship), they pay attention to details (they don't forget about the little things :D), and they are good at time management (rest assured they will make some time for you!).

The fun stuff aside, the class was informative as well, like how I have to read a lot of literature to prepare for my proposal of research titles or how the suggested areas for theses/projects for CS, IT, and IS courses were discussed. Part of the requirement (Learning Evidence) for the subject was to submit research titles that may potentially be utilized for our thesis subject in the future, and we had to defend and receive approval for them. This has to be done individually too. The facilitator also talks about the technicalities,  such as what to include in the manuscripts (in your thesis), relevant source code/s, and the proposal/topic template.


One of the insights I gained from the class that I like very much is how research is bridging a "gap" between the present and the future. It stands between what is now and what it ought to be. That opened my eyes to the fact that performing research can provide us with infinite opportunities if we use it appropriately and effectively. If we conduct research that can solve an issue in the community or provide a practical solution, we can continually develop it for the country's technological advancements. If students from universities and colleges use their areas of study and conduct research with the intention of providing a long-term and sustainable solution for society, it would undoubtedly aid in the growth of a certain city or province.
